- I don't really have an answer to that. I tend to think that, I don't know, I could go either way, but if you put a gun to my head, I think it's probably better at this point to start building up these aspects in a more safe and secular and in a way that reduces harm, knowing though that there are really beautiful aspects of these religions that we're leaving behind which opens us up to all kinds of nihilism and things like that. But I just think the fact that Islam had a golden age and yet can revert at any time to fundamentalism from a world that we don't even see anymore, I mean just an ancient world kind of fundamentalism, to me shows that no matter how much we do to try to curb the bad behavior and focus on the beautiful parts, as we go forward in humanity, it just feels like if at any time there's always going to be this side door towards fascism and authoritarianism, I just think then these are religions that we have to let go of in the modern world because now those side doors that even don't represent the most beautiful and even most common expressions of that religion, I just think that it's going to be too dangerous to continue when we're looking at what's happening in the world today.
